Ingredients

Method

  1. Poach the fish — Simmer the fish in salted water for 8 minutes, then flake it, discarding any bones.
  2. Boil potatoes — Cook and roughly mash the potatoes.
  3. Make the sauce — Soften the onion in butter, stir in the flour, then whisk in the milk to make a thick white sauce.
  4. Combine — Fold in the fish and potato and warm through, keeping some texture.
  5. Plokkfiskur is ready — Season well and serve with dark rye bread and butter.
